Barcelona’s Gavi Undergoes Knee Surgery, Expected to Miss the Rest of 2025
Barcelona midfielder Gavi has undergone arthroscopic surgery to repair a medial meniscus injury in his knee, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 21-year-old Spain international had the meniscus sutured in an effort to preserve it, with recovery expected to take around four to five months.
This latest setback comes after Gavi tore a cruciate ligament in the same knee in 2023. The young midfielder has been sidelined since August, with Barcelona initially hoping that conservative treatment would allow him to avoid surgery.
Barcelona face a busy schedule in the coming weeks, traveling to Real Oviedo on Thursday and hosting Real Sociedad on Sunday in La Liga, before welcoming Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next week.
Gavi is not expected to return to action until early 2026, ahead of a year in which Spain are likely to be among the favourites at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
