UN Warns of Deadly Hunger Crisis in Gaza and Sudan

Hunger Crisis Grows in Gaza and Sudan, Says United Nations

The United Nations has warned that many people in Gaza and Sudan are facing life-threatening hunger. The problem is getting worse as not enough food and aid are reaching the people who need them.

In Gaza, aid supplies have almost stopped. The war has destroyed homes and services, and Israel’s blockade has made it hard for help to get in. Israel says it is not using hunger as a weapon, and blames aid groups for not collecting the supplies at border points.

The head of the United Nations, António Guterres, said in a speech that climate change and war are making hunger worse. “Hunger causes more fighting and stops peace,” he said. “We must never accept hunger as a weapon.”

On Sunday, Israel began a “tactical pause” in the fighting. This was done so aid groups could bring in food and help hungry people in Gaza. But the World Health Organization says that hunger and malnutrition in Gaza are already at very dangerous levels.

In Sudan, the situation is also very bad. The UN says it is the “biggest humanitarian crisis” in the world right now. Since April 2023, fighting between two military leaders has killed tens of thousands of people and forced over seven million to leave their homes.

The United Nations is calling for peace and more help for the people suffering from hunger in both Gaza and Sudan.
