General Bajwa visit to Kabul to discuss Afghan Peace process

Chief of army staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Kabul on a day-long visit, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bajwa on Monday said that Pakistan will always support the Afghan peace process based on the common harmony of all.

The COAS reiterated that a peaceful Afghanistan means a peaceful region in general and a peaceful Pakistan in particular. “We will always support the ‘Afghan-led peace process based on the mutual consensus of all stakeholders,” the army chief added.

The ISPR said matters of mutual interest, current developments in the Afghan peace process, enhanced bilateral security and defense cooperation, and the need for effective border management between the two brotherly countries were discussed during the meeting.

However, violence has risen in Afghanistan with the Taliban launching attacks throughout the country. Also, a recent unclaimed attack on a school in Kabul killed dozens of students.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani praised Pakistan’s sincere and helpful role in the Afghan peace process. Pakistan is regarded as a crucial participant in the Afghan peace process. In recent times, Washington and other Western countries have praised Pakistan’s efforts. Especially to push the militant group to take part in peace talks.

In addition, COAS Bajwa on Monday also met Britain’s Chief of Defence Staff General Nicholas Patrick Carter. They talked on Afghan peacemaking.

Chief of the Defense Staff UK was also present during the meeting between Bajwa and Ghani. Moreover, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid accompanied COAS during the visit.
