Giorgio Armani Laid to Rest, Tributes Pour In for Fashion Icon
Milan — Giorgio Armani, the legendary Italian fashion designer, will be laid to rest in a family chapel in Rivalta, a village about 100 km (62 miles) southeast of Milan, near his birthplace, Piacenza. In a mark of respect, Armani stores across the country will close on the afternoon of his funeral.
“We will say goodbye to him as a family and then move forward as he would have wanted. Everything is ready to remember him through his fashion,” said his partner, Pantaleo Dell’Orco, according to Corriere della Sera.
Up until his passing, Armani had been preparing a retrospective exhibition and a fashion show to celebrate 50 years in the industry, scheduled for Milan Fashion Week in late September. The company has not announced any changes to the program.
The designer’s death, announced last Thursday, sparked an outpouring of grief worldwide. Tributes flowed in from Hollywood stars, athletes, political leaders, business figures, and devoted fans.
Over the weekend, thousands came to pay their respects at Armani’s Milan headquarters, where his wooden casket, adorned with white roses, was placed on display. “I feel very saddened, because he was a man of great style who has left an indelible mark… We are definitely losing a great, truly great talent,” said Milan resident Alessandra Torchio on Monday.
Armani’s career spanned more than five decades, during which he built a global empire stretching from haute couture to home furnishings, with his name becoming synonymous with timeless elegance. He had no children but relied on a close-knit group of family members and longtime confidants, who are expected to continue running the business he carefully guided.
