Saudi Central Bank Launches Google Pay in the Kingdom
Riyadh – The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) has officially launched Google Pay in the Kingdom, marking a major step forward in digital payments. The announcement was made during the Money 20/20 Middle East Conference and Exhibition in Riyadh, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Google Pay will allow users to make secure, contactless payments through the “Tap to Pay” feature, making transactions seamless in stores. The service will also soon be available for in-app and online payments.
Through the Google Wallet app, customers can easily add and manage their mada cards, as well as international credit cards like Visa and Mastercard.
The payment platform comes with multiple layers of security, including industry-standard tokenization. Instead of sharing real card details, payments are processed using a device-specific virtual card number, along with a dynamic security code that changes with every transaction.
SAMA highlighted that bringing Google Pay to Saudi Arabia is part of its broader strategy to strengthen the digital economy and improve the payment experience for users across the Kingdom.
