Court Rejects Bail for Hassan Zahid, Sends Him to Jail in Kidnapping Case
Islamabad – The court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Hassan Zahid in a kidnapping case, sending him to jail on judicial remand. Police also took him into custody in a separate case filed against him.
Authorities had initially requested an eight-day physical remand for Zahid in the kidnapping case. However, the court chose to place him under judicial custody instead.
In a related case involving threats and the snatching of cash, the court approved a two-day physical remand. Police said they plan to recover a mobile phone, a vehicle, and weapons from the accused during interrogation. Officials added that, based on Zahid’s identification, other suspects linked to the incidents will also be arrested.
Earlier, Hassan Zahid had completed a five-day physical remand in the threats case. Duty Magistrate Muhammad Azhar Nadeem extended his remand by three more days at the prosecution’s request. The defence argued that Zahid was initially granted a two-day remand but was brought before the court after five days, citing a clerical error that was later corrected by the police.
During the hearing, Zahid’s lawyer presented transaction records between the accused and Samiya Hijab, along with a video statement from her parents. The defence also claimed that Zahid and Samiya Hijab were engaged, submitting engagement photographs as evidence.
The prosecution reported that Rs45,000 had been recovered from Zahid, but his vehicle and weapons remained to be seized, and his accomplices had yet to be arrested. They requested an additional eight-day physical remand to complete the investigation.
The defence countered that Zahid had been granted bail in one case only to be arrested immediately in another. They further alleged that when Zahid demanded repayment from Samiya Hijab, he was provided with fake receipts.
The case against Hassan Zahid has been registered at Shalimar police station in Islamabad, and proceedings were conducted in the court of Duty Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Azhar Nadeem.
