HEC Shares News Update for 2-Year BA and MA Degrees

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has issued an important update regarding two-year Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Arts (MA), and Master of Science (MSc) degrees. HEC no longer considers these two-year programs, including 2-year BA degrees and 2-year MA degrees, equivalent to a four-year bachelor’s degree or a Master of Science (MS) degree in several important contexts. This includes meeting the minimum credit hours and market relevance requirements.

To address this issue, the HEC has issued a new warning to students and parents. They have advised against enrolling in two-year BA, BSc, MA, and MSc degree programs. The HEC has phased out these programs, setting deadlines for the academic years 2019 and June 30, 2022, respectively. Despite these deadlines, some higher education institutions continued to admit students to these programs. Non-Recognition of Degrees

As a result, the HEC has made it clear that it will not recognize or attest degrees from these programs. According to the HEC Ordinance, the State educational system does not affiliate colleges offering these degrees. The HEC has urged students, parents, and stakeholders to avoid enrolling in these programs. Degrees obtained from such programs do not qualify for recognition and attestation by the statutory body.
