Movies that ruined real-life marriages

Many famous couples met while working together on set, although for some it meant the dissolution of their prior unions. Although there are many romantic tales in Hollywood, some of them are actually much messier than we realize. Families being shattered in the name of love is never enjoyable, but there are situations when there is no other option. Fortunately, a lot of these tales also have a happy conclusion in which the intended couple gets married and leads a wonderful life together! Okay, on occasion.

‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith'(2005)


The movie brought Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie together, which famously broke the actor’s marriage. Brad Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston at the time , but “Braneglina” was meant to be. The actor got divorced, and the co-star eventually got together and started a family. Pitt and Joile parted ways, however, in 2016.

‘Days of Thunder'(1990)


Tom Cruise was married to Mimi Rigers when he met his co-star, Nicole Kidman. The two actors fall in love quickly just one month after he started filming days of Thunder 1990, leading to Cruise getting a Divorce with Mimi Rogers. Cruise and Kidman got married in the same year, but unfortunately divorced in 2001.

Proof of life (2000)


Reportedly, Med Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s marriage was already on the edge before this movie was shot, and Quaid was already cheating on Ryan. Then the actress met Russell Crowe while filming ‘Proof of Life’, and their chemistry was so good on screen and was instant, even though the romance between co-stars didn’t last. Eventually, Ryan and Crowe didn’t stay together, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quiad separated and got divorced in 2001.

Daredevil 2003


Jennifer Garner was married to Ben Foley and Ben Affleck was engaged to Jennifer Lopez, When they started shooting for the film, their chemistry was great so the romance was inevitable. Garner got a divorce, and Affleck separated from J.Lo. The actor married in 2005, and they started to stay together and had three children during their 13 years together as a family, until they divorced in 2018.

‘The Outlaw Josey Wales'(1976)


Clint Eastwood was married to Maggie Johnson at the time, but during the shooting of the movie, he fell in love with his co-star, Sondra Locke, while filming. The actress was married to sculptor Gordon Anderson and continued her marriage with him until her death in 2018. On the other hand, Eastwood divorced his wife.

‘Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein'(1994)


Kenneth Branagh was married to Emma Thompson when he fell for his co-star Helena Bonham Carter during shooting. This affair led to a divorce between Branagh and Thompson, who had been together for five years at the time.

‘The Misfits’ (1961)


The writer Arthur Miller, who was married to Marilyn Monroe at the time, wrote a narrative that served as the inspiration for the 1961 film ‘The Misfits’ script. But the storyline didn’t sit well with the actress, and their ongoing conflict led to a divorce as soon as the production was over. Marilyn Monroe’s validation as a more serious performer was meant to come from this film. It was the final time she appeared on screen.

To Have and To Have Not (1944)


Hollywood heartthrob Humphrey Bogart was married to actress Mayo Methot at the time. But according to reports, their marriage was not in great shape, and then the actor met Lauren Bacall on set of ‘To Have and To Have Not.’Infatuated with Bacall, Bogart separated from Methot. The newlyweds remained wed till the actor passed away in 1957.

Titanic (1997)


When director James Cameron began collaborating with actress Suzy Amis (who portrayed Rose’s granddaughter), he was already married to Linda Hamilton. After falling in love, Cameron filed for divorce, and the two are still together today.
