Red Button, a single by Drake, and his latest album Scary Hours 3 were both released on Thursday night.
“Taylor Swift the only n—- that I ever rated,” reads the lyrics to the previous song. Of all of you, I treat you like you never made it, but only one could force me to release the album a little bit later.
When two of the biggest stars in music release new songs at the same time, Drake and Swift, they regularly battle it out for the top spot on the charts.
This happened on October 21, the day Swift’s Midnights was released, a year ago. Her Loss, Drake, and 21 Savage’s joint album were supposed to be released on October 28, however, it was eventually rescheduled till November 4.
Swift’s lead Midnights track Anti-Hero held the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for a while, but after the release of her album Her Loss, it dethroned Midnights.
Despite their competition, Drake and Swift remain close friends; in fact, in an April 2022 Instagram post, the rapper shared a photo of himself holding the pop singer in his arms.
Drake unexpectedly revealed on social media on Thursday that, just a few weeks after the release of his most recent album, For all the Dogs, he would be releasing Scary Hours 3 that evening.
