Watch: 'Grand Theft Auto VI' teaser unveils 2025 release date

After it was discovered online, Rockstar Games unveiled the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on Monday night ahead of time. Rockstar Games posted on social media, “Please watch the real thing as our trailer has leaked.”

The wildly popular video game franchise’s return to the Miami-based fictitious city of Vice City was confirmed by the trailer, which also seems to feature the first female protagonist in the series. A release date of 2025 was also established.

Within two hours of its release, the teaser, which featured fast automobiles, robberies, strip clubs, and even an alligator entering a store, had received nearly 20 million views on YouTube. On Reddit, someone wrote, “I feel like this GTA will lean much more into the absurdity of America, much more than GTA V did.”

“The only way we are going to get through this is by sticking together, being a team,” the presumed female protagonist says to her accomplice at the end of the teaser. This gave some users “major Bonnie and Clyde vibes,” alluding to the notorious American crime pair from the Great Depression.

With over ten years having passed since the last Grand Theft Auto game was released, players have been eagerly awaiting the trailer. With over 190 million units sold, Grand Theft Auto V stands as one of the all-time best-selling video games.

Take-Two Interactive, the company that controls Rockstar Games, claims that the entire franchise has sold an astounding 410 million copies to date. A British court found an adolescent guilty earlier this year of leaking about fifty minutes of in-game footage back in 2022 when the game was still in production.
