Drone Attack From Yemen Targets Israel, Intercepted Missile Sparks Alarm

JERUSALEM — Israeli police said Thursday that security forces were handling the aftermath of a drone crash in Eilat that caused material damage but no injuries. The military released video footage of the incident on its official X account.

According to Israeli media, the drone was launched from Yemen and crashed near Eilat’s hotel district. Yemen’s Houthi rebels later claimed responsibility, warning in a statement that the city “will remain under constant targeting.”

The Houthis, aligned with Iran, have repeatedly targeted Israel and international shipping routes, saying their attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. While dozens of missiles and drones have been launched, most have either been intercepted by Israeli defenses or failed to reach their targets. Israel has responded with multiple retaliatory strikes.

On Thursday, the military confirmed it intercepted another missile launched from Yemen after air raid sirens were triggered in several cities, including Jerusalem. “Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF,” the statement said.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, the Houthis have stepped up drone and missile attacks against Israel. In return, Israel has targeted key infrastructure in Yemen — including ports, power stations, and Sanaa’s international airport. Just last month, Israeli airstrikes killed the head of the Houthi government along with 11 senior officials.
