Houthis Fire Missile at Israel After Ceasefire Ends

Warning sirens went off in several parts of Israel, but the army later said that the missile was probably stopped in the air before hitting anything.

This is the first time the Houthis in Yemen have fired a missile at Israel since the ceasefire between Israel and Iran on June 24, after their 12-day conflict.

A Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said they fired a ballistic missile called Dhu al-Fiqar at an important Israeli target in Beersheba, a city in southern Israel.

He said the attack was to respond to what he called “crimes by the Zionist enemy” against people in Gaza.

Missile Fired at Israel by Yemen’s Houthis

Since the Gaza war started in October 2023, the Houthis—who support Palestinians and are backed by Iran—have launched many missile and drone attacks on Israel.

They had stopped attacking for two months during a temporary ceasefire, but began again when Israel restarted its military actions in Gaza.

Israel has hit back by bombing places in Yemen controlled by the Houthis, including ports and the main airport in their capital, Sanaa.

Saree said the Houthis will keep attacking until Israel ends its military operations in Gaza and lifts the blockade on the area.
