IHC Forms Bench for Aafia Siddiqui Case

IHC Constitutes New Bench to Hear Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Case

Islamabad — The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has formed a four-member bench to hear a petition concerning Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s health and potential repatriation. The bench will be led by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and also includes Justices Khadim Hussain Soomro, Mohammad Azam Khan, and Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas.

The hearing, filed by Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui on behalf of her sister, is scheduled for September 10, according to the IHC Registrar’s office.

This move follows the dissolution of a single-member bench headed by Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas earlier on Monday. Justice Minhas had referred the case to the IHC Chief Justice to form a larger bench for further proceedings.

Earlier, the matter was being overseen by Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, who had previously issued contempt notices to the Prime Minister and cabinet members over non-compliance with court orders. However, the case was reassigned to Justice Minhas after changes in the IHC judicial roster, as Justice Ejaz Ishaq Khan was moved to a special division bench handling tax-related cases.
