Minor Dies After Being Hit During Celebratory Firing; Karachi Celebrations Turn Deadly
Lahore – A tragic incident marred Independence Day celebrations as a young boy, identified as Ryan Bilal from Wapda Town, Lahore, succumbed to critical injuries sustained when he was struck in the head during celebratory gunfire. Despite medical efforts at a local hospital, the boy passed away during treatment.
The celebrations turned even more grim in Karachi, where aerial firing claimed at least three lives and left 82 others injured. Police reported incidents across the city, with 30 injuries in the East Zone, 43 in the West Zone, and 12 in the South Zone.
In Azizabad, an eight-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a bullet to the head. Separate incidents in Korangi and Lyari resulted in the deaths of two elderly men, who were shot in the head and neck. Among the injured were 51 men, 24 women, six boys, and one girl.
Authorities acted swiftly, arresting more than 90 suspects involved in the deadly aerial firing. Police also recovered 68 illegal weapons and registered over 100 cases related to the incidents.
Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon condemned the shootings, emphasizing that Independence Day celebrations should never put lives at risk. “Celebrating does not mean taking someone’s life,” he said, urging citizens to refrain from aerial firing.
