India Wins Asia Cup 2025 Amid Controversy Over Trophy Presentation

Dubai – India secured the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 title on Sunday with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium.

However, the on-field excitement was overshadowed by off-field tensions. The Indian team reportedly refused to accept the tournament trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, citing political reasons. Despite pressure from Indian officials, Naqvi stood firm, insisting on presenting the trophy himself. As a result, the Asia Cup trophy was sent directly to the ACC office instead.

The situation escalated further when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, likening India’s cricket win over Pakistan to “Operation Sindoor,” a military action. Modi congratulated the team while drawing a controversial parallel between the victory on the field and military success.

In response, Mohsin Naqvi criticized Modi’s remarks, stating, “If war is your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at the hands of Pakistan. No cricket match can rewrite that truth. Dragging war into sport only exposes desperation and disgraces the very spirit of the game.”

The incident has sparked widespread debate, highlighting how political tensions continue to spill into sporting events.
