In Mumbai, the financial hub of India, a massive billboard fell on top of several people during a thunderstorm, resulting in at least 14 fatalities and numerous injuries, according to local police.
After strong winds and rain late on Monday, the billboard in the eastern neighborhood of Ghatkopar toppled, causing three houses and a gas station near a main road to fall.
After the tragedy, many people were trapped, and rescue efforts continued until early on Tuesday. The city’s busiest airport saw disruptions in operations because to the rainstorm, which also brought traffic to a complete stop in many areas of the city.
According to Mumbai Municipal Corporation, 31 of the at least 74 persons who were injured in the accident were released from the hospital.
