With the release of its eighth season, the infamously alluring and eagerly anticipated talk show Koffee With Karan is set to return, and the charismatic filmmaker and host of the program, Karan Johar, also known as KJo, has teased fans with a clever and self-aware promotional video.
The most recent Koffee With Karan season 8 trailer shows Karan idly sipping his coffee (or Koffee). The plot twist, though, occurs when his Konscience (conscience, but with a “K” instead of a “c”) unexpectedly shows up to engage him in a direct discussion regarding the forthcoming season. The teaser suggests that Karan is aware of the complaints and cruel remarks made in the past. Will he take similar action, though?
Konscience mocks the previous season in the video by calling it dull and chilly and criticizing it for its conversations. When Karan hears this, he becomes surprised and wonders whether his coffee has been tampered with. In response, Konscience makes a light-hearted remark and speculates that his coffee may have been spiked with a little “perspective” this time.
Konscience continues to torment Karan by making fun of the show’s material and even challenging the humor of jokes regarding “nepo babies.” He jokingly queries whether the jokes were meant to be hilarious. Konscience criticizes the previous episodes’ repetition and the apparent lameness of a 50-year-old host probing into the sex lives of 20-year-olds, which intensifies the banter. “Is it because you don’t have a sex life of your own?”
As the debate progresses, KJo frankly acknowledges that he could have done better. Konscience then speculates that he was preoccupied with endorsing hair dye and spectacles, alluding to Karan’s other endorsements (like Lenskart). A revitalized Karan makes his season’s plans known in response to this information. Inviting cricket players and newlyweds, he expresses his pleasure about shifting the focus from famous kids to, well, star grandkids.
Turns out, my own Konscience wants to insult me too, Karan remarked on Instagram after posting the clever advertisement. But who cares what he thinks—Season 8 is still in the works! Season 8 of Koffee With Karan, a Hotstar Special, will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on October 26.
