Actor Vijay, who is well-known in Tamil, has started a political party in Tamil Nadu after being named chief of the Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).
In the approaching Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026, the recently established “Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam,” which roughly translates to “Tamil Nadu Victory Party,” is anticipated to make a splash.
Following recent general council and executive council meetings, Vijay said that his party would not run for the Lok Sabha and would not endorse any other political party, according to NDTV.
“I have made the decision to fully immerse myself in the politics of public service and finish the film I have already committed to, all without interfering with my party duties. I see this as my way of showing my appreciation to the Tamil Nadu people,” Vijay said, as reported by Press Trust of India (PTI).
The state, which is well-known for having stars make the move from film to politics, including the late greats Maruthur Gopalan (MG) Ramachandran MG Ramachandran and Jayaram Jayalalithaa, has seen unplanned celebrations in response to his statement from his admirers.
Known for his outstanding performance in 68 movies, Vijay has been pursuing political goals for more over ten years. He has also participated in fan groups and several charitable endeavors, such as food distribution, libraries, and educational scholarships.
He recently planned an event to honor students who scored the highest on public examinations. He counseled them to study about leaders and to “take what’s good and leave the rest.”
