Inter Milan Cruise to Win as San Siro Sale Gets Green Light
MILAN — Inter Milan continued their perfect start to the Champions League season with a commanding 3-0 victory, joining Real Madrid and Bayern Munich with six points from two matches. Goals from captain Lautaro Martinez in each half, along with a strike from Denzel Dumfries, secured a dominant win for the Nerazzurri.
Last season’s runners-up are now on a four-game winning streak across all competitions, showing no signs of slowing under new coach Cristian Chivu. Fans at San Siro witnessed a one-sided affair that could easily have seen Inter score even more.
“Perfection doesn’t exist, but I can see so much effort from the boys and their willingness to embrace new approaches. That makes me happy and proud,” said Chivu after the match.
Martinez opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Slavia Prague goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek’s weak pass to David Zima was intercepted and calmly rolled into an empty net. Just four minutes later, Inter doubled its lead with a swift counterattack. Francesco Acerbi initiated the move, and Denzel Dumfries finished it off with skillful footwork, aided by a perfect low cross from Marcus Thuram.
Martinez netted his second in the 65th minute after Thuram’s exquisite backheel found Alessandro Bastoni, who squared it for his captain to finish. Thuram, later substituted due to cramp, reassured fans that the knock was “nothing serious.”
The victory was capped by news off the pitch: Inter and city rivals AC Milan have been given the green light to purchase the San Siro stadium. The €197 million ($231 million) sale, approved after more than 11 hours of debate at city hall, marks a historic step for both clubs.
The clubs plan to build a new 71,500-capacity arena before eventually replacing the iconic San Siro. Current regulations prevent any demolition if the site remains public property beyond November 10, meaning the stadium will likely stand until at least 2031.
“It’s a historic and decisive step for the future of the clubs and the city,” both clubs said in a joint statement, celebrating a day of triumph on and off the pitch.
