A Vanity Fair piece claims that Johnny Depp and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also referred to as MBS, have a “bromance like no other.”
After his royal visit to Saudi Arabia, the Pirates of Caribbean actor is also thinking about signing a seven-figure deal to become a global cultural ambassador while filming in the country.
“Although I acknowledge that initially I was a little ignorant about the events taking place in the area, I have subsequently witnessed directly the cultural revolution taking place there,” Depp stated in an interview with Vanity Fair.
The magazine piece claims that Depp spent approximately seven weeks traveling throughout Saudi Arabia in the previous year, spending time there and personally seeing the nation’s cultural renaissance, guided by MBS.
The Hollywood Reporter had stated that Depp and MBS had become great friends. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from various parts of the region who have been most welcoming in sharing with me their culture, their traditions, and their stories,” Depp told the magazine.
The Red Sea Film Foundation has already provided financial backing for Depp’s next movie, Modi, an Al Pacino-led biopic based on the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
Additionally, Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia had already awarded postproduction funds for Depp’s historical drama Jeanne du Barry before to the film’s Cannes premiere, suggesting that the Hollywood star may be making a comeback to the industry following his turbulent divorce from Amber Heard.
Depp needs to concentrate on improving his reputation after a British court first found against the actor following the publication of a defamatory article about the Hollywood star in The Sun that called him a “wife-beater.”
Depp did, however, go on to prevail in a slander case against Heard in the US, receiving a payment in excess of $10 million.
