Elon Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, has denied rumors that during their meeting in Florida earlier this month, the former US president Donald Trump asked for money for his campaign. This was first reported by Business Insider.
The wealthy internet entrepreneur claimed that their encounter was a chance rather than a prearranged rendezvous in an interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon that was published on Monday.
“While I was at a friend’s house for breakfast, Donald Trump dropped by. That’s all, Musk declared.
After that, Lemon questioned the Tesla owner about their “chance” conversation.
At that point, Trump replied: “Let’s just say he did most of the talking […] I don’t recall him saying anything that he hasn’t said publicly.”
“In no way, shape, or form am I financing his legal fees. and he didn’t want payment from me.”
The New York Times had reported that a number of wealthy Republican contributors were present at the fundraiser where Trump and Musk met.
Following the announcement that they had met, Musk declared unequivocally that he would not be providing financial support to any contender.
He stated unequivocally in the interview that before to the presidential elections on November 5th, he would support a candidate but would not be making any donations to anyone.
“While I’ll voice my opinion, I don’t want to put a thumb on the scale monetarily,” he stated.
