Iran Funeral After Strikes

Iran Funeral After Strikes

Iran has started a big funeral ceremony to honor its military commanders and nuclear scientists who died in recent attacks. State TV showed people wearing black clothes, waving Iranian flags, and holding pictures of the dead leaders.

Last weekend, the United States attacked three Iranian nuclear sites. This was part of a 12-day war that began on June 13, in which the U.S. supported its ally, Israel, in bombing Iran’s nuclear program.

Both Israel and Iran said they won the war. But Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, said the U.S. attacks didn’t cause any serious damage.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump got angry after Iran claimed victory. On his social media, Trump said he knew where Khamenei was hiding and could have let Israel or the U.S. kill him — but he didn’t. Trump said, “I saved him from a horrible death,” and joked that Khamenei didn’t even thank him.

Trump also said he was working on removing some sanctions on Iran, which Iran wants. But after hearing angry statements from Iran, Trump said he stopped working on that.

Iran Holds Funeral for Leaders Killed in War with Israel

In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Trump’s words about Iran’s leader were rude and disrespectful. He added that if Trump wants a deal with Iran, he should change his tone.

Araghchi also said the Iranian people showed the world that Israel had to ask for help because it couldn’t handle Iran’s missile attacks.

Iran said that Israel’s strikes killed 627 civilians. On the other hand, Iran’s attacks killed 28 people in Israel.

On Saturday, Iran began a large funeral in Tehran for 60 people, including military commanders and nuclear scientists killed by Israeli attacks. The ceremony started at 8:00 a.m. local time.

TV showed pictures of coffins covered with Iranian flags and the faces of the commanders. The funeral started near Enghelab Square, and a procession was planned to move across the city to Azadi Square.

Mohsen Mahmoudi, an Iranian official, said this would be a historic day for Iran and its Islamic revolution.

Some important people killed included:

Mohammad Bagheri, a top general in Iran’s military, died with his wife and daughter (a journalist).

Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, a nuclear scientist, died with his wife.

Hossein Salami, a top commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was killed on the first day of the war.

Out of the 60 people being buried, four were children.
