The relatives of the hostages who were slain in battle received condolences from Israel’s military on Friday, and they were informed that the tragedy will be investigated with “full transparency”.
The military added that it had located the remains of three further prisoners. Of the more than 130 prisoners being kept in the heavily populated coastal strip, Israel claims to think that about 20 of them are dead.
According to Gaza Health Authorities
According to Gaza health authorities, Israel’s ruthless onslaught on the beleaguered enclave has killed about 19,000 Palestinians, and many more are thought to be buried under the debris.
The US has warned that Israel runs the risk of losing international backing due to “indiscriminate” airstrikes that are killing Palestinian civilians, even though there is fierce ground warfare throughout the Gaza Strip and humanitarian agencies are warning of a humanitarian disaster.
US officials stated that Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden’s national security advisor, sent a message to Israel on Thursday and Friday encouraging it to shift from a broad military campaign to more focused operations against Hamas leaders.
Israeli authorities made it clear in public during Sullivan’s visit that they would keep up the war until they succeeded in eliminating Hamas, which might take several months.
Israel and Washington appeared to be at odds on when to end the war, as indicated by Sullivan’s statement on Friday that the allies were having an “intensive discussion” over the timeline.
The last two weeks have seen an increase in fighting after a week-long truce broke down.
A decrease in the number of rockets fired into Israel, according to Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy, indicates that Israel is winning the battle and weakening Hamas.
However, a few hours later, Israel’s Iron Dome air defenses intercepted at least three missiles, resulting in explosions overhead and sirens sounding in Jerusalem. The missile strike was attributed to the armed wing of Hamas, who described it as a reaction to “Zionist massacres against civilians”.
Over the past two months, many of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been forced from their homes multiple times.
