A new report says that some Israeli soldiers were told to use deadly force on groups of Palestinians, even when those people did not seem dangerous.
The report says that soldiers used machine guns from tanks and threw grenades at civilians. This caused many people to be hurt or killed.
One soldier said the area looked like a “killing field,” with one to five people dying every day.
The Israeli army is now checking if any war crimes happened at these aid sites. The army’s top lawyer has asked for an investigation into possible violations of the rules of war.
But Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz strongly rejected the report. They called it a “blood libel”—a false and harmful accusation against the Israeli army (IDF).
The war in Gaza has caused many deaths. Gaza’s Health Ministry says that since October 2023, at least 56,331 people have been killed and 132,632 injured by Israeli attacks.
UN Criticizes US-Backed Gaza Aid
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Friday that a new aid program in Gaza, supported by the U.S., is very dangerous and is killing people.
The U.S. and Israel want the U.N. to help with a new group called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. But the U.N. says it will not help because the group may not be neutral and might use aid to force people to leave their homes.
Guterres said:
“Any plan that pushes desperate people into military zones is unsafe. It is killing people.”
