The new dinosaur movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, is the seventh film in the series. It takes place five years after the last one.
Scarlett Johansson plays Zora Bennett, a brave soldier who leads a team. Their mission is to steal DNA from the three biggest dinosaurs that are still alive.
Her team includes:
Mahershala Ali, who plays a character named Duncan
Jonathan Bailey, who plays a dinosaur expert named Henry
The mission doesn’t go as planned. The team has to save a family whose boat went too close to the dangerous dinosaur island.
The movie’s director, Gareth Edwards, recently said that in the original script, Mahershala Ali’s character was supposed to die.
“In the first version I read, he died. I liked it,” Edwards said. “But when we started talking to Mahershala Ali, we thought maybe we should keep him alive.”
Surprisingly, Mahershala Ali wanted his character to die.
“After reading the script, Mahershala said, ‘Can we kill him?’ I liked the idea too, so we both agreed,” said the director.
They changed the script again to have the character die.
But the studio (the company making the movie) asked them to also film a version where Mahershala’s character stays alive.
“When I showed the version where he dies, the studio liked it. But they asked, ‘Can we also see the version where he lives?’” Edwards said.
They edited the second version and showed both versions to test audiences.
“People liked the version where he lives more,” the director said.
So, in the final movie, Mahershala Ali’s character survives.
