Court Asks K-Electric CEO to Pay Rs 2.5 Million Fine in Harassment Case
KARACHI – The court has issued notices to all parties involved in a case against K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi. They must respond within one week. The court also asked Moonis Alvi to pay a fine of Rs 2.5 million.
The case is about whether the Provincial Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment has the right to take action against Moonis Alvi. His lawyer, Barrister Abid Zuberi, argued that K-Electric works in more than one province, so it should follow federal laws, not provincial ones.
The court will continue the case after it receives replies from all sides.
Earlier, Sindh Ombudsman Justice (R) Shah Nawaz Tariq had ordered the removal of Moonis Alvi from his job as CEO of K-Electric. He also imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 million.
This action came after a complaint by Mehreen Zehra, the former Chief Marketing Officer at K-Electric. She said Moonis Alvi harassed her and caused mental stress. She was hired by the company in 2019 for consultancy work.
After investigating the matter, the Ombudsman found the allegations to be true and decided that Moonis Alvi must leave his position and pay the fine within one month.
The Ombudsman also warned that if Moonis Alvi does not pay, his properties could be seized. His ID card and passport may also be blocked.
This case shows the growing importance of workplace ethics and accountability in Pakistan’s corporate sector.
