K-Electric Clarifies Power Rates as NEPRA Considers Price Cut

K-Electric Says It Doesn’t Decide Electricity Rates

KARACHI – July 31, 2025:
K-Electric has said it does not decide electricity prices on its own. The company gave this statement after people started talking about a possible price increase.

According to K-Electric, all electricity rates are set by the Government of Pakistan. These include the per-unit charges, slab rates, and consumer categories. The prices follow a national electricity tariff policy managed by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).

A spokesperson said that K-Electric follows this policy just like all other power companies (DISCOs) in the country. No company can change the rates unless the government issues a proper notification.

The current electricity rates, which started from July 2025, were decided by the federal government and apply to all companies, including K-Electric.

Possible Decrease in Power Prices
NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) is now thinking about a possible decrease in electricity prices under the quarterly adjustment plan.

A group of power companies has requested NEPRA to reduce bills, asking for a Rs53 billion relief for customers all over Pakistan, including K-Electric users.

If NEPRA agrees, the price may go down by Rs1.75 per unit in bills from July to September 2025. A final decision will be made after NEPRA’s hearing on August 4, 2025.
