Tired Dumper Driver Causes Two Accidents in Karachi
KARACHI – A dumper truck caused two serious accidents in Karachi, one near Defence Morr and another in Malir, due to brake failure and the driver falling asleep.
In the first accident, a speeding dumper filled with construction waste crashed into a bungalow near Defence Morr. The crash damaged the boundary wall of the house. The driver and cleaner were hurt and taken to a nearby hospital. Police said the brakes had failed. The driver was arrested.
Later, the same dumper was involved in another accident in Malir. The dumper hit two motorcycles — one was destroyed and the other was partly damaged. The body of one victim was taken to Jinnah Hospital.
Police said the driver, Ejaz, fell asleep while driving from Sohrab Goth to Qayyumabad. His steering also failed, and his driving license had expired. He admitted to working long 12-hour shifts and only sleeping in his free time.
Ejaz was caught by the police and taken to the Malir City police station. A case has been registered against him, and the dumper has been taken into custody.
