Farooq Sattar Criticizes Karachi Administration Over Rainwater Flooding
Karachi – During a late-night visit to rain-affected areas of Surjani Town, MQM leader Farooq Sattar expressed frustration over the city administration’s failure to drain rainwater, saying the promises of local representatives had “washed away in the streets of Karachi.”
“We can afford the salaries and perks, but we cannot carry the burden of this mayor,” Sattar remarked, aiming for the city’s leadership.
He further warned that it seems there is a “national consensus to destroy Karachi” and urged the federal government to change its approach. While he acknowledged that Karachi may not officially be declared a disaster-hit zone, Sattar suggested the city should at least receive tax relief during these difficult times.
The MQM leader also criticized other political parties, including the PPP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and PTI, for failing to manage the post-rain situation. He questioned how many storm drains had been cleaned and whether any effective rain emergency plan had been implemented.
On a positive note, Sattar praised Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, saying that despite having no official resources or public funds, the governor had turned his largely ceremonial office into a practical and exemplary role.
“We have been out since morning and have now completed our visit to Karachi. MQM has fulfilled yet another promise,” Sattar concluded.
