Karachi Floods After Heavy Rain, Residents Forced to Evacuate Homes
Karachi faced severe flooding on Tuesday as heavy to moderate rains inundated the city, leaving Shahrah-e-Faisal waterlogged. Authorities quickly launched drainage operations to ease the hardships faced by residents.
The downpour also caused the Malir and Lyari streams to swell, with floodwaters spilling into nearby residential areas. In low-lying neighborhoods around Malir, rising waters forced residents to evacuate their homes to safer locations. The Lyari stream continued to swell, sending torrents of water onto the Lyari Expressway. Two people caught in the flood were rescued, while the waters carried away household belongings and even entered a mosque in Nishtar Basti.
Residents of Hassan Noman Colony, near Sohrab Goth, appealed to authorities for urgent rescue as water levels reached alarming heights.
Rescue teams from Edhi, Chhipa, and Rescue 1122 have been working tirelessly to save lives, while police and traffic officials remain deployed on flooded roads. However, government officials, union council representatives, and local authorities were noticeably absent from the affected areas despite the escalating crisis.
