Karachi Floods Heavy Rains Trigger Power Outages

Karachi Faces Widespread Power Outages as Heavy Rains Flood the City

Karachi is grappling with massive power outages as heavy rains continue to flood the city. According to officials, underground cables and substations were inundated, disrupting electricity supply across multiple neighbourhoods.

Power cuts have been reported in areas including Surjani Town, Yousuf Goth, Moinabad, Scheme 33, and Baldia. Residents of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bin Qasim, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Manghopir, and Razzaqabad are also struggling without electricity.

In some parts of the city, the situation has been even more severe. Residents of Ramswami, the Old City Area, Urdu Bazaar, and M.A. Jinnah Road have been without power for over 48 hours. The prolonged outages have also affected water supply in many homes, adding to the hardships faced by citizens.

In a related incident, Shah Faisal Colony police have registered a case against K-Electric CEO Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi and other officials after two brothers were electrocuted during the heavy rains. The victims, Israr Khan and his younger brother Siraj Khan, reportedly came into contact with a live underground K-Electric wire outside their home. Floodwaters had submerged the road, and both died instantly. Their family is demanding strict legal action, holding K-Electric accountable for negligence.

The torrential rains, which hit the city for a second consecutive day on Wednesday, have caused widespread urban flooding, road closures, and even a landslide at Kati Pahari. Major roads, including Korangi Industrial Area Road, II Chundrigar Road, and Sultanabad, have been heavily inundated, crippling traffic.

In Surjani Town, rescue teams were forced to use boats to transport a patient to a hospital as water-logged streets remained impassable.

Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel while the city battles the ongoing flooding crisis.
