Karachi Mayor Pushes for Timely Completion of Key City Projects

Karachi: Mayor Murtaza Wahab has called on the Pakistan International Development Company Limited (PIDCL) to provide a clear timeline for the completion of major city projects, emphasizing that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) must ensure they are finished on schedule.

The Mayor expressed serious concern over delays, noting that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued back in 2017 has yet to be fully implemented, causing significant inconvenience for Karachi’s residents. He warned that if progress continues at the current pace, some projects might not be completed even by 2035.

Mayor Wahab also urged local authorities to take an active role in monitoring and facilitating project execution. Reflecting on past challenges, he recalled that the Green Line project had faced obstacles related to Nagin and KDA Chorangi, while ongoing work on the Red Line project is currently causing issues for commuters on University Road.

“These delays and unresolved issues are harming the city’s overall situation. Immediate action is needed,” the Mayor said.

Earlier, Mayor Wahab admitted that the Red Line project has been a source of embarrassment for him, praying for its swift completion. “I have been informed that it may take another two years to finish this project,” he told the media, while also praising Sindh’s transport minister for efforts to expedite the work.

In another development, the KMC has become the first local council in Pakistan to fully digitize its salary disbursement process. Mayor Wahab announced that 101 employees had been found receiving double salaries and confirmed that legal action would be taken against them.
