Karachi Court Orders Rs. 99 Lakh Compensation for Family After Tragic Nullah Accident
KARACHI – A local court has ordered the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Central to pay over Rs. 99 lakh as compensation to a family affected by a tragic accident in 2022.
The incident happened at night in 2022 when a family was riding a motorbike near the under-construction Shadman Nullah. Sadly, their bike fell into an open portion of the drain. The mother died on the spot, and the infant son went missing in the drain.
The woman’s husband filed a case against KMC and DMC-Central, blaming them for negligence.
After reviewing the case, the court found that both civic bodies failed to fulfill their legal duty. It was their responsibility to ensure the nullah was properly supervised and secured to protect citizens.
“The KMC and DMC-Central did not do their job. They were supposed to make sure the area was safe,” the court said in its ruling.
The court has now directed both government bodies to pay over Rs. 99 lakh in compensation to the affected family.
