Karachi Police Arrest Illegal Parking Fee Collectors Near Gul Plaza
KARACHI – Police arrested several individuals on Thursday for illegally charging parking fees in areas where parking is officially free.
According to officials, the operation was conducted near Gul Plaza, MA Jinnah Road, and Akbar Road within the limits of Preedy Police Station after multiple public complaints. Despite a government ban, the suspects were allegedly demanding money from vehicle owners.
A police spokesperson confirmed that cases have been registered at Preedy Police Station on behalf of the state. Authorities said the crackdown is part of efforts to end unauthorized practices and provide relief to citizens.
The action follows the Sindh government’s notification issued on July 25, which abolished parking fees across 25 towns of Karachi. The notification placed a complete ban on charging fees on public roads, limiting them only to designated plazas, private plots, or areas managed by municipal councils. Town administrations were directed to strictly enforce the order.
