Karachi Port Upgrade Begins

In a major move toward decarbonizing Pakistan’s maritime sector, the Federal Minister announced a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving energy efficiency across port operations. The initiative is part of a broader national effort to modernize port infrastructure and implement smart maritime practices that align with international environmental standards.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the maritime industry into a more sustainable and environmentally friendly sector, ensuring compliance with global green shipping protocols.

In a related development, the Sindh government has approved the construction of an expressway connecting Karachi Port Terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge. The project was approved during a session of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

According to the CM, the 12.5-kilometer road will feature both elevated and underground segments. The new expressway will link the Karachi Port directly with the Malir Expressway, significantly enhancing traffic flow and cargo movement.

The Chief Minister has directed the Sindh Local Government Department to coordinate with the PPP Unit to finalize the project plan. He emphasized that the expressway will be constructed under the PPP mode, utilizing government resources.

This dual-pronged approach — modernizing port infrastructure and improving road connectivity — is expected to bolster Pakistan’s maritime logistics and environmental goals.
