Karachi Faces Widespread Power Outages, PIA Operations Disrupted
Karachi is grappling with severe electricity shortages following two days of heavy rain, which have left the city struggling to restore power.
At the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Engineering Division, including the Ispahani Hangar, power has been cut off, sources say, causing major disruption to aircraft maintenance work. The outage has also affected the office of PIA Aircraft Engineers, leading to operational difficulties.
According to insiders, K-Electric has suspended power supply to several PIA departments for the past three days, hampering routine functions and adding to the ongoing crisis.
The citywide electricity situation remains critical as 98 K-Electric feeders are still non-functional. Officials report that underground cables and substations were flooded during the heavy rains, cutting off electricity to many neighborhoods.
Power outages have been reported across Karachi, including Surjani Town, Yousuf Goth, Moinabad, Scheme 33, and Baldia. Other affected areas include Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bin Qasim, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Manghopir, and Razzaqabad. Residents of Ramswami, the Old City Area, Urdu Bazaar, and M.A. Jinnah Road have been without electricity for more than 48 hours.
The ongoing disruption is causing widespread difficulties for both residents and critical services in the city.
