Two Brothers Electrocuted as Heavy Rains Batter Karachi
KARACHI – Tragedy struck on Wednesday when two brothers, identified as Israr Khan and his younger sibling Siraj Khan, lost their lives after coming into contact with a live underground K-Electric wire outside their home. According to the family, both men died instantly as floodwaters had submerged the road.
The heartbroken family has demanded strict legal action, accusing K-Electric of gross negligence.
Meanwhile, Karachi continued to reel under torrential rains for the second consecutive day, which brought large parts of the city to a standstill. Urban flooding, road closures, prolonged power outages, and even a landslide at Kati Pahari added to the chaos.
Key arteries, including Korangi Industrial Area Road, II Chundrigar Road, and Sultanabad, were submerged, leading to severe traffic gridlock. In Surjani Town, rescue teams had to deploy boats to transport a patient to the hospital as vehicles remained stranded on flooded streets.
Power outages added to the misery, with some neighborhoods plunged into darkness for up to 36 hours. In Nazimabad Block B, frustrated residents staged protests demanding immediate restoration of electricity. The blackout also triggered a severe water shortage in several localities.
Karachi Traffic Police confirmed the closure of both tracks of the Korangi Industrial Area Road and the Korangi Causeway due to overflowing drains. Multiple underpasses, including Shaheed-e-Millat, Drigh Road, Nazimabad No. 1 and No. 2, and Sohrab Goth, were also shut after heavy water accumulation. Authorities have advised commuters to use alternative routes.
