Karachi Robbery Caught on CCTV Amid Street Crime Surge

CCTV Footage of Karachi Robbery Sparks Fresh Concerns Over Rising Street Crimes

KARACHI – A chilling CCTV video of a house robbery in Karachi has gone viral on social media, further fueling public fears about the city’s rising street crime.

According to reports, two armed suspects arrived on a motorcycle and forced their way inside a residence by breaking an open gate. Within seconds, one of the robbers brandished a pistol, looted valuables, and fled the scene in less than 10 seconds. The footage shows the men executing the crime with precision and alarming confidence.

This latest incident comes amid a broader surge in street crimes across Karachi. In August alone, over 5,900 cases were reported, including 1,737 mobile phone snatchings and 679 motorcycle thefts.

Shah Latif Town in District Malir remains a hotspot, with residents voicing frustration over weak regulation and delayed police response. Despite claims by authorities that crime rates are gradually declining, locals say they continue to live in fear. Police data from early 2025 revealed an average of 48 mobile phone thefts reported daily.

Officials have urged citizens to remain cautious, lock gates and doors securely, and report suspicious activity immediately. However, many residents are demanding increased police patrols and stricter enforcement to curb the menace.

The issue has already claimed several lives. In July, two tragic incidents were reported, while just weeks ago, 24-year-old Jibran—who had returned from Saudi Arabia to attend his father’s funeral—was shot dead in Orangi Town during a robbery attempt.

With incidents like these becoming increasingly common, Karachi’s street crime crisis shows little sign of slowing down, leaving citizens desperate for stronger protection.
