During the discussion on Sindh’s annual budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, MQM’s Ali Khursheedi strongly criticized the condition of Karachi. Speaking in the provincial assembly, he said:
“The city’s administration has turned Karachi into a ‘Temu version’ of Mexico City.”
He used the term “Temu version” to suggest that Karachi has become a poor-quality or downgraded version of a major city, just like how cheap knockoffs are sold on the Temu app.
Khursheedi also pointed out that the city’s mayor, Murtaza Wahab, is fully backed by the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He reminded the assembly that Wahab was previously the administrator of Karachi and asked:
Ali Khursheedi Criticizes Karachi’s Condition in Budget Debate
“If Murtaza Wahab had control before, then why has Karachi been listed among the world’s most unlivable cities?”
Earlier in the session, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah gave some details about the development budget. He said Sindh has set aside around 30% of its total budget for development projects. In comparison, he mentioned:
Punjab has allocated 23%
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has allocated 25.3%
This statement was aimed at showing that Sindh is spending more on development than other provinces.
