Karachi Traffic Fines Go Digital

Karachi Traffic Fines Go Digital

A Pakistani living abroad shared a message where he criticized the government. He said the authorities should stop bribery first before giving heavy traffic fines. He even suggested that senior traffic police officers like DIGs and SPs should be fined first.

He also said that many traffic signals in Karachi are not working properly. He asked why the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is not being fined for that.

In response, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon replied in a detailed and respectful way. He said that the news about recent increases in traffic fines is not true.

He explained that a new digital challan system is being introduced, which will replace the old paper-based system.

Now, all traffic violations in Karachi will be recorded through cameras. This will help stop bribery and make the system fair. No more manual tickets will be given.

The IG said that new help centers are being opened in Karachi. These centers will assist people with their traffic issues. Staff will be well-trained, and people can also report their complaints online.

He said that this new system is already working well in driving license branches in Karachi. It has helped reduce corruption there.

The IG also explained the traffic rules:

There are 59 types of traffic violations now.

For 51 of them, motorcyclists can be fined Rs 5,000 and car drivers Rs 10,000.

Serious violations have even bigger fines.

Examples of serious fines:

Driving on the wrong side: Rs 25,000 (bike), Rs 100,000 (car), Rs 200,000 (government vehicles).

Reckless driving: Rs 10,000 (bike), Rs 15,000 (car).

Driving without a license: Rs 50,000 (bike), Rs 100,000 (car).

Heavy vehicles without a license: Rs 250,000.

IG Memon said these changes will help improve road safety, stop corruption, and make the traffic system better for everyone.

After receiving this response, the overseas Pakistani appreciated the IG’s detailed and polite reply.
