Khawaja Asif Alleges Political Pressure from Gen Bajwa’s Family During PTI Era

ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that he faced political pressure from the family of former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa during the PTI government.

Speaking to reporters, Asif revealed that the father-in-law of Gen Bajwa once summoned him to his residence, where he was taken to the basement and asked to publicly condemn a speech made by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in Gujranwala. The speech had named both Gen Bajwa and former ISI chief Gen Faiz Hameed.

“I was told to distance myself from Nawaz Sharif’s speech and condemn it. When I refused, I was warned that NAB cases would be initiated against me,” Asif said, adding that PML-N leader Rana Tanveer was also present as a witness.

The minister further alleged that a few days after refusing to comply, he was arrested and jailed for six months. “Despite their efforts, they could not establish a NAB case against me, and the court eventually ordered my release,” he added.

Asif also questioned key decisions taken during the PTI tenure, including the policy by then Prime Minister Imran Khan, Gen Bajwa, and Gen Faiz Hameed to settle Taliban elements in Pakistan.

“Terrorism is a global challenge that must be fought collectively, and Pakistan has always been the frontline state in this fight,” he stressed.
