KP Floods: Control Room Set Up as Death Toll Rises to 229

Peshawar – Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have set up a special control room at the Directorate General to monitor the worsening flood situation across the province. According to the official notification, the control room will operate round the clock with dedicated staff ensuring swift communication and coordination during emergencies.

Officials said rainfall and flood conditions are being continuously tracked, while field offices have been instructed to remain in close contact for timely response measures. The initiative, they added, is aimed at ensuring faster relief operations and better coordination as floods continue to disrupt life in KP.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Friday that devastating cloudbursts and flash floods over the past 24 hours have claimed 229 lives and left 40 others injured. Among the deceased are 184 men, 14 women, and 12 children, while the injured include 17 men, three women, and one child.

District-wise figures show the highest casualties in Buner (91 deaths), followed by Shangla (35), Mansehra (23), Bajaur (21), Swat (20), Battagram (15), and Lower Dir (5). The PDMA added that 68 houses have been damaged, including 21 partially and 7 completely destroyed.

Fatal incidents were reported in several districts, with Bajaur and Battagram identified as the worst-hit areas.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to maintain close coordination with the KP government and deploy all available resources for rescue and relief work. Chairing a high-level meeting, the Prime Minister urged officials to intensify relief operations and provide maximum support to flood-affected families across the country.
