The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a fresh weather alert, warning of intermittent heavy rainfall in several districts across the province. The affected areas include Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, and Abbottabad.
Authorities have cautioned residents about the risk of flooding in local streams and rivers, especially in Mansehra, Chitral, Abbottabad, and Kohistan. In response, district administrations have been placed on high alert with strict instructions to implement safety measures.
Emergency services, including Rescue 1122, have been directed to remain fully prepared for any untoward incidents. Traffic control plans will also be enforced at vulnerable points and major roads to ensure smooth flow and public safety during the downpour.
Monsoon Alert Issued in KP as PDMA Warns of More Rains, Flooding Risk
The PDMA has advised farmers to harvest and secure their crops in advance to prevent damage. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms or hailstorms and to seek shelter in safe areas. The public is encouraged to report emergencies through the 1700 helpline.
In addition to on-ground precautions, the PDMA stressed the need to clear drainage systems to avoid urban flooding and recommended that weather alerts be communicated in local languages to ensure broader awareness.
According to a preliminary report from PDMA, 20 people have already lost their lives while 10 others were injured in rain-related incidents across KP during the current monsoon spell. The authority confirmed damage to 57 houses—51 partially and six completely destroyed—due to flooding and rainfall.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property during the ongoing monsoon season.
