Kriti Sanon Speaks Out on Gender Inequality in Bollywood

Bollywood star Kriti Sanon, who has made her mark as an actor, producer, and entrepreneur—and now advocates for gender equality—opened up about the subtle yet persistent disparities female actors face in the film industry.

In a recent interview, the ‘Mimi’ actor highlighted issues like early call times, inferior facilities, and preferential treatment given to male co-stars. “It hasn’t happened too many times, but little things like the male actor getting a better car or a better room… It’s not about the car, but about not making me feel smaller because I’m a woman,” Sanon said, calling for equal treatment for all, regardless of gender.

She added that such practices are deeply ingrained in Bollywood. “Sometimes even ADs have a habit of calling the female actor first and waiting for the male actor later. I’ve had to tell them not to do that,” she revealed.

Sanon stressed that change must start with the mindset. She also reflected on her own upbringing, saying that she and her sister Nupur were raised in an environment free of gender restrictions, thanks to their parents’ encouragement.

“The mindset needs to change,” she urged, hoping the industry will move toward true equality for women.
