Punjab Green Corridor to Turn Lahore into Greener, Cleaner City

LAHORE: A new project, known as the Punjab Green Corridor, aims to make Lahore cleaner and greener by converting unused railway land into green spaces. The plan will cover 40 kilometers from Shahdara to Raiwind, with 700 Kanals of land being transformed into beautiful green belts.

The project will help reduce pollution in Lahore and improve the city’s appearance. It is expected to be completed in one year and will cost over Rs. 2.35 billion.

The corridor will be built in four parts:

Shahdara to Lahore Railway Station

Lahore Railway Station to Walton

Walton to Kot Lakhpat

Kot Lakhpat to Raiwind

In a unique idea, old railway carriages will be reused as libraries or cafés, giving people a place to relax and enjoy the city’s history.

The Punjab Housing Department has already sent the project plan (PC-1) to the Planning and Development Department for final approval.

This green corridor is part of a larger plan to fight pollution, heat, and smog in Lahore. It will also give people more public spaces to enjoy.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her strong support of the project.

In another step toward a cleaner environment, the federal cabinet has approved the Green Building Code of Pakistan. This new code will apply to buildings with four or more floors and aims to improve energy use, climate protection, and eco-friendly construction.

The code was developed by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and represents a significant step towards sustainable development in the country.
