A 19-second video titled “Me at the zoo” was shared by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim. It features him speaking about the elephants’ trunks while standing in front of an elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo.

The video has had more than 317 million views as of April 24, 2024.

According to a Fox9 article that was released earlier this year, three former PayPal employees—Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Karim—registered the website’s domain name on February 14, 2005.

The three first intended to launch a dating service, but they soon realized that users would also like to share their personal films.

A month before to the platform’s official launch in May 2005, the first video was uploaded to YouTube.
