27 Dead Bodies Recovered in Lyari Building Collapse
During the rescue work, 27 bodies were found in the rubble of the building that collapsed in Lyari’s Baghdadi area last Friday.
The Governor of Sindh said that the families of those who died will be given 80-yard plots of land. He also promised to give food supplies to the affected families.
While visiting the area, Governor Kamran Tessori praised the Sindh government’s decision to suspend the Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). He said just changing people in top positions won’t fix the system — real changes are needed.
A special committee has been made, led by Karachi’s Commissioner, to investigate the incident. The committee will find out who is responsible and suggest ways to stop such tragedies in the future.
They will also plan how to move people out of other unsafe buildings in Karachi. The committee has 48 hours to submit its report with full recommendations.
Earlier, during a press conference, Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, and Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that the SBCA chief had been suspended.
Saeed Ghani strongly criticized the SBCA for not stopping illegal building projects in the city.
