Over 25 Dead in Lyari Building Collapse; Many Arrested
Last week, a building in the Baghdadi area of Lyari, Karachi, collapsed and killed more than 25 people.
After the tragedy, the Karachi District City Police started operations in different areas to find those responsible. So far, more than 10 people have been arrested. This includes seven officers from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and some of the building’s flat owners.
Sources say the arrested SBCA officers were directly involved in approving and supervising the building’s construction. The flat owners had rented out the apartments to different families.
Police are now carefully investigating everyone’s role in the collapse. Once they know who is responsible, more legal steps will be taken.
Investigation Committee Formed
A five-member committee has also been set up to look into the building collapse. The committee is led by the Karachi commissioner.
Their job is to find out who caused the incident and to give suggestions to prevent similar accidents in the future. They will also make a plan to safely move people out of other unsafe buildings in Karachi.
