M-9 Motorway Flooded Karachi-Hyderabad Traffic Hit

Floodwaters from the Dam Reach M-9 Motorway Disrupt Karachi-Hyderabad Traffic

Karachi – Rising water levels from a nearby dam have reached the M-9 Motorway, flooding sections near Jamali Bridge and causing major disruptions for commuters traveling between Karachi and Hyderabad.

Acting on instructions from the Chief Secretary, the Karachi Commissioner immediately dispatched a response team to manage the situation. Meanwhile, the Sindh government has decided to breach the motorway’s central divider to divert water and reduce pressure on the road.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has urged officials to clear the motorway and restore traffic as quickly as possible.

The overflow has also led to flooding in Gadap, where authorities have declared an emergency in Memon Goth.

In a tragic turn, a rickshaw and a car were swept away by the Thado stream. Residents reported that a woman was carried off by the floodwaters, while another woman and the car’s driver remain trapped inside the submerged vehicle.

Police confirmed that rising water levels in the Konkar stream are hampering rescue operations. Rescue teams are working urgently to recover the trapped vehicles and assist those affected.
