Pakistan Armed Forces Honour 60th Martyrdom Anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed

ISLAMABAD — The Armed Forces of Pakistan solemnly marked the 60th martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider), paying tribute to his extraordinary bravery and sacrifice during the 1965 war.

In a statement, the military leadership — including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu — highlighted Major Bhatti’s heroism and leadership as an enduring source of inspiration.

During the 1965 war, Major Bhatti held the Burki sector near Lahore under relentless enemy attacks for five days and nights. His steadfast courage and leadership inspired his troops, playing a critical role in halting enemy advances and making his sacrifice a defining moment of the conflict, a lasting symbol of patriotism.

“His selfless leadership and devotion to duty continue to inspire generations,” the Armed Forces statement said. “As a nation, we honour not only Major Bhatti but all martyrs who laid down their lives defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and security.”

Born in Hong Kong in 1928, Major Aziz Bhatti moved to Pakistan before independence and settled in Ladiyan village, Gujrat district. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1950 and was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment. For his supreme sacrifice, he was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest military honor.

The tribute comes shortly after Pakistan Navy Day, which commemorates the 1965 war heroes who fought bravely during Operation Somnath, the daring raid on Dwarka. The Navy’s actions, including those of submarine PNSM Ghazi, demonstrated operational superiority and played a key role in safeguarding Pakistan’s homeland during the conflict.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to defend the nation with the courage and determination exemplified by Major Bhatti and other martyrs.
